Abstract

Background: Obesity in adolescent girls is a health problem with increasing prevalence, especially in urban areas. In Indonesia, the prevalence of obesity in adolescents aged 13-15 years is 8.7% and 16-18 years old is 4.11%. Obesity in adolescence is at risk of having long-term impacts on physical, psychological, and reproductive health in adulthood. Various factors are suspected to play a role, including family history of obesity, sedentary lifestyle, sleep quality, anxiety, and instant food consumption patterns.

Objective: To analyze factors related to the incidence of obesity in adolescent girls at Daya Utama Vocational Senior High School Bekasi City in 2025.

Methodology: This study used an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The population and research sample amounted to 101 female students who were taken using the total sampling technique. Independent variables included assessment of obesity risk in the family, sedentary lifestyle, sleep quality, anxiety level, and instant food consumption behavior. Dependent variables are the incidence of obesity measured using Body Mass Index (BMI). Data analysis was carried out univariate and bivariate using the Chi-Square test.

Results: There was no significant association between obesity risk assessment in families (p = 0.265), sedentary lifestyle (p = 0.987), sleep quality(p=0.929), anxiety (p = 1.000), and pattern of instant food consumption (p=0,690) and obesity incidence.

Conclusions: The incidence of obesity in adolescent girls is multifactoral and has not been shown to be significantly related to the variables studied.

Recommendation : Promotive and preventive efforts are needed through school health programs that focus on balanced nutrition education, increased phasical activity, improved sleep quality, and mental health and family support.
